Giving Away $250,000

Got a business? Want to grow your business? Looking for help?

I got an email from one Mr. Neil Patel earlier today and as it turns out - he's looking to give away $250,000 to a few people with good ideas.

I won't bother droning on here about the economy, what a great opportunity it is, etc. etc. Just visit his page with the details and find out if you apply. If you do and you've really got a great idea be sure to tell him you came from the Beanstalk site. Always good to win points with someone who likes giving away money. ;)

Here We Go Again ...

Well is was an enjoyable 12 hours but the folks over at Google are up to it again and the visible PageRank (that green bar) is on the move once again. This latest round appears to be an effort to correct some of the wrongs (basically, to give PageRank back to those that shouldn't have lost it). This leaves me with a big question, if we didn't see any change in the rankings and the site's aren't selling links then who cares?

While I don't put stock in what the green bar tells me, it is of course interesting to monitor what's going on (and of course to consider what must be happening at the text link brokers). Bought a PR7? Might be a PR3 but is it worth the same $30/mth you were paying? ;)

So all I can really recommend to our valued visitors is to do the same as I am (and this is coming from a guy who's site went from a 6 to a 4) ... relax, drink some Chai tea and check your rankings. They probably weren't affected and so in the end ... who cares? :)

And so from there I'm going to meander onto a new topic and one that's a lot more interesting - branding vs. marketing vs. advertising. Sometimes it can be very difficult to tell the different between one and the other and so I was happy to see that Neil Patel (apparently as funny as he is smart) posted a GREAT post to illustrate the difference. You can read it on his blog here.

Neil Patel On Digging

When one thinks of Internet marketing's rockstars the list is fairly short. Rand Fishkin, Matt Cutts, Neil Patel and a notable few others. These are the people that have not only made a splash based on their skills but have also become the voices and faces of the industry. For this reason above most, I love publishing news on them (always good for some traffic) and good for the health of the Beanstalk blog (good quality information).

Well I discovered today on the WebProNews.com site that Neil Patel is giving away the secrets to becoming an expert Digger. For those of you who don't know, a Digger is one who uses the social bookmarking site Digg. Due to it's popularity, experts are those who can also use Digg to generate large volumes of traffic for their clients. Neil is such a person and is the face most closely associated with social media marketing and today he's put out a video explaining how to do it yourself. I won't bother describing the content, it's only 2 minutes and 51 seconds. You can watch it below:

A Change Of Plans

Earlier today I made mention of the fact that on our weekly Webmaster Radio show Jim and I would be interviewing Neil Patel, Presellpageman and Eric Ward. Unfortunately Eric had to cancel at the last minute due to a prior engagement. Fortunately Rebecca Kelly from SEOMoz came to our rescue and more than filled the shoes left empty.

A huge thanks to Rebecca and the SEOMoz team for coming to our rescue on such short notice (5 minutes to be specific). And what's more - she was great and added huge value to a show dedicated to link building.

Rebecca, next SES I owe you a beer (at least). :)

Oh, and to top off our show Presellpageman held a contest for 3 months of hosted content (that's a page dedicated to your content complete with a backlink to your site) on one of his 20+ year old .edu domains. And he did this for 3 lucky winners. Just another reason to listen to The Alternatives on Thursday at 5 EST. ;)

Link Building On Webmaster Radio

No, this blog post isn't about how to get a link on Webmaster Radio. The show today is on link building and we've got ourselves a lineup of some of the best-of-the-best in the industry to discuss how it's done.

We'll be starting off with none other than Eric Ward. Eric is one of the worlds top link builders. We'll of course have MUCH to discuss there.

After Eric we'll be chatting with presellpageman on hosted content, paid links and more.

After presellpageman we'll be chatting with our good friend Neil Patel about the future of link building, social media and more.

It's going to be an excellent show so be sure to listen in at 5PM PST or download the show tomorrow from here.
